Product Information for Tadalafil Tablets (2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, 20mg)
About Tadalafil
The Tadalafil film-coated tablet is your flexible erection friend. It can be taken on-demand as needed or daily - you’re always prepared no matter the occasion. For daily use, we use 2.5mg or 5mg strengths and for as-needed use, we use 10mg or 20mg strengths.
Tadalafil key features
Often called the ‘weekend pill’, Tadalafil (when taken as needed) can last up to 36 hours – right through from Friday evening to Sunday morning. If you prefer to take the daily option instead, you’re always ready for action when the time comes.
Tadalafil is the generic version of the Cialis brand ED medication. This means they both contain the same active ingredient (Tadalafil).
As-needed option | Daily option |
|---|---|

How does Tadalafil work for Erectile Dysfunction?
Tadalafil combats erectile dysfunction by targeting PDE5, an enzyme responsible for breaking down the natural chemical cGMP - which relaxes penile blood vessels.
The science simplified
During sexual arousal, the body releases nitric oxide into erectile tissues, which stimulates the production of cGMP. This chemical relaxes smooth muscle tissue and enhances blood flow into the penis.
Tadalafil works by stopping PDE5 breaking down cGMP, allowing this vessel-relaxing compound to build up and work longer. This prolonged action keeps blood vessels dilated, trapping adequate blood in the penis to maintain a firm erection.
Good to know
Tadalafil (when taken as needed) can begin to work within 30-60 minutes and can last for up to 36 hours. Other ED options may only last up to 4 hours, so Tadalafil can offer worry-free flexibility.
When taken daily, Tadalafil is always present in the body and allows for erections to be spontaneous in response to stimulation. You can relax in the moment knowing you have a helping hand.
With both options, Tadalafil will not give you an instant or uncontrollable erection, you still need to be sexually aroused.
Choosing the right Tadalafil dosage
Deciding to use either the daily or as-needed Tadalafil option depends on a combination of preference, lifestyle and sexual frequency.
Daily Tadalafil (2.5mg or 5mg)
This option provides continuous coverage without planning around sexual activity. It's ideal for those who have frequent sexual encounters (multiple times weekly) as it maintains a steady level in the bloodstream, allowing for spontaneity without waiting for medication to take effect. It can also have milder side effects since the dose is lower than as-needed versions. It's particularly suitable for couples in established relationships where intimacy occurs regularly but unpredictably. These daily tablets can take up to 2 weeks to be effective when you first start treatment.
As-needed Tadalafil (10mg or 20mg)
This option may appeal to those who have less frequent or more predictable sexual activity. It can be more cost-effective for occasional use - you're not taking medication on days without sexual activity. Some people may prefer not to take medication daily if it’s not needed. It offers a generous window of effectiveness (up to 36 hours), providing flexibility without daily commitment.

Tadalafil Tablets (2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, 20mg) reviews
How to use Tadalafil Tablets (2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, 20mg)
Tadalafil tablets should be swallowed whole with water and can be taken with or without food.
Because Tadalafil is available as both a daily treatment (2.5mg or 5mg) and an as-needed treatment (10mg or 20mg) for erectile dysfunction, instructions for when and how often you need to take it will depend on which one you’ve been prescribed.
Always read the Patient Information Leaflet included with your medication before starting treatment.
When should you take Tadalafil?
If you’ve been prescribed daily Tadalafil (2.5mg or 5mg), take ONE tablet once a day, ideally at the same time. You don’t need to plan when you take it around sex, as the medicine will build up to a steady level in your body.
If you’ve been prescribed Tadalafil to take when needed (10mg or 20mg), take ONE tablet at least 30 minutes before sex. Because Tadalafil lasts longer than some other erectile dysfunction treatments, there is usually less pressure to get the timing exactly right.
How often should you take Tadalafil?
How often you should take Tadalafil depends on which regimen you're on.
Daily Tadalafil: Take one tablet once a day only. It can take 1-2 weeks to reach full effect, so be patient and don’t take extra doses if it does not work straight away.
As-needed Tadalafil: Take when needed before sex, but never more than one dose in 24 hours. Since Tadalafil can work for up to 36 hours, you may not need another dose even if you have sex again the next day.
If you think your treatment is not working as expected, don’t adjust the dose yourself. Speak to one of our clinicians, who will check you’re taking it correctly and may suggest a higher-dose tablet or a different erectile dysfunction treatment.
How long does Tadalafil last?
If taken as needed, Tadalafil can remain effective for up to 36 hours, although this varies from person to person.
Daily Tadalafil works differently. Rather than giving a short-term effect, it provides continuous treatment and keeps a steady level of the medicine in your body, so you can be more spontaneous without needing to take a tablet before sex or plan around intimacy.
Important safety advice
If you miss a dose of daily Tadalafil, take it when you remember, unless it is nearly time for your next dose. Do not take two doses together.
If you have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours, seek urgent medical attention immediately.
Side effects of Tadalafil Tablets (2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, 20mg)
These are some of the common side effects of Tadalafil tablets. This list isn’t exhaustive, and you should always read the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your medication. A copy of this will also be in the medication packaging or box.
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
Headaches
Flushing (hot, red skin usually on the upper body and face
Stuffy nose
Indigestion/heartburn
Muscle pain or back pain
The side effects listed below are more serious, and you should stop taking Tadalafil, and get medical help immediately.
An erection that will not go away (priapism). If you have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours, seek medical help immediately. Priapism can permanently damage your penis.
Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes. Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes can be a sign of a serious eye problem called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Stop taking Tadalafil and get medical help right away if you have sudden vision loss in one or both eyes.
Sudden hearing decrease or hearing loss. Some people may also have ringing in their ears (tinnitus) or dizziness. If you experience these symptoms, stop taking Tadalafil and contact a doctor right away.

Tadalafil is used by men who struggle to get an erection and maintain it long enough for sufficient sexual intercourse.
-
Yes, pretty much, Cialis is the branded version of Tadalafil. The only real difference is the brand name, they both contain the same active ingredient, Tadalafil.
While some people prefer branded medicines, these products are often more expensive than the generic alternatives.
-
Tadalafil tablets are a prescription-only medicine. However, you can get Cialis Together without a prescription, which contains the active ingredient (Tadalafil 10mg). You will still need to answer some questions so we can make sure it is safe and appropriate for you.
-
Yes, if taken as directed by your doctor, Tadalafil is usually safe. It has been approved by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) for erectile dysfunction treatment in men.
The MHRA is the medicine regulatory agency in the UK, it ensures the safety of medicines such as Tadalafil and approves the licencing of them.
-
Sildenafil and Tadalafil are in a group of treatments called phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors. They increase the blood flow to the penis when sexually aroused producing an erection that is strong enough and lasts long enough to enjoy sex. Both tablets have a mild side effect profile and cost a similar price.
So, let’s look at some of the differences between Sildenafil vs Tadalafil tablets:
- Tadalafil as needed tablets can take between 30-60 minutes to start working and then the effects can last up to 36 hours.
- Sildenafil is faster acting and an erection can be achieved within 30 minutes, once working the effects can last up to 4 hours.
- Tadalafil has the option of a daily tablet, which means you can constantly have the medicine in your system so you can achieve an erection more spontaneously.
-
When looking at Tadalafil v Sildenafil (Viagra) it’s important to understand that both tablets work differently depending on the person. Some will find that one works better for them, some the other way around, and some will find little to no difference. It’s important to remember that these medicines have different, incomparable strengths. For example, 20mg of Tadalafil is not equivalent to 100mg of Sildenafil.
-
No, you shouldn’t take a higher dose of Tadalafil than you’ve been prescribed. Taking too much at once can be dangerous and cause side effects such as a drop in blood pressure or priapism.
If you think your dose of Tadalafil isn’t working, contact a member of our team to explore your options.
Never take two tablets to make up for a forgotten dose and never increase your dose without talking to us.
-
This is possible for some people, but studies have shown that Tadalafil usually works the same whether taken with food or on an empty stomach.
-
The order limit for the 2.5mg and 5mg strength tablets is 6 boxes in total.
The order limit for the 10mg and 20mg tablets is 64 tablets (16 boxes of 4).
-
Yes, because it relaxes and widens blood vessels, Tadalafil can cause your blood pressure to drop slightly. For most people this isn’t a problem. But it can be unsafe if taken with nitrates or certain other blood pressure medicines, as it could drop dangerously low.
-
Tadalafil is an ED treatment specifically for biological males over 18 to get or maintain an erection firm enough to enjoy sexual intercourse. Tadalafil is not approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) for use by women.
-
Tadalafil is long-lasting and stays in your system for 3 or 4 days after a single dose, but improves erectile function for up to 36 hours. This is much longer than Sildenafil, which is why Tadalafil is often referred to as the “weekend pill” — if taken on Friday night, its effects may last until Sunday morning.
-
This depends on which blood pressure medicines you take. Some combinations need extra caution, as taking them with Tadalafil could cause your blood pressure to drop too much. Tell your prescriber about any medications so they can check that Tadalafil is suitable for you.
-
No, Tadalafil does not increase testosterone. It helps erectile function by improving blood flow rather than affecting hormone production. If your ED is linked to low testosterone, Tadalafil may help improve your symptoms, but it won’t treat the underlying hormone imbalance.
-
There’s no single “best” option. The right treatment depends on your preferences, lifestyle, and how the body responds. Tadalafil lasts the longest and is available as a daily treatment, giving it a flexibility that some people prefer, while others prefer a shorter-acting tablet.
-
Many people can take Losartan and Tadalafil together, but the combination can sometimes lower blood pressure more than expected, which could increase the chance of dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting. Let your prescriber know if you take Losartan.
-
Constipation is not a common Tadalafil side effect, but some people do experience it. More common side effects include headache, indigestion, flushing, and muscle aches. If you notice digestive symptoms that worry you, talk to our friendly team for advice.
-
Weight gain is not a recognised common side effect when taking Tadalafil, and there is no good evidence that the medication directly leads to weight gain. If you notice unexpected weight changes, there may be another cause worth discussing with your doctor.
Important - Before taking any medication, it is always important to read the Patient Information Leaflet (PIL)
